A Summary

With the recent influx of British Muslims travelling to join the extremist group known as ISIS, debate is raging from all sides. Sayeeda Warsi writes in defence of British Muslims after David Cameron’s recent comments that Muslims could be doing more to combat radicalisation. The Comments As inevitably happens with this sort of story, the one size fits all brigade were out in force making all sorts of generalisations:

This guy has got it all figured out, who needs sources when you have a brain like this?

This slightly jaded comparison between a group of extremists and another separate but very different issue wasn’t altogether that helpful:

This user doesn’t appear to subscribe to the concept of human compassion and collective benevolence:

Head shaking, face palming stuff.

One question: Is it really right to paint any group of people with the same brush?

A sweeping statement is surely incorrect no matter which way you look at it.

There will always be difference of opinion in any group, particularly in such a large group as is the case here.  The way society and community thrives is by cooperation and understanding between different groups of people. Away from the brainwashing and false promises that ISIS reportedly advertises, perhaps if we a society better understood what it is to be a Muslim in Britain then people would feel comfortable where they are and would not feel the need to take such drastic, illogical measures searching for where they belong.  We should all stand together regardless of religion, race or anything else against evil forces such as ISIS who want nothing more than to cause misery and suffering to the human race.
